The 10,000 square foot Energy Building was designed to include two classrooms, two laboratory/shop areas, a conference room and a learning center. This innovative building takes advantage of building materials that increase energy efficiency and is utilized as an educational tool. Two types of photovoltaic panels are utilized to supplement electrical power as well as wind turbines.
The mechanical system is also unique in that the heating system is an in-slab radiant floor system. The cooling system is a low velocity type that is not only very efficient but helps create better air quality. The structural wall system utilizes an Insulated Concrete Form system (ICF). This project will be CHPS certified and LEEDS Gold certified. In addition it was the winner of the 2010 Award of Excellence from the Coalition of Adequate School Housing.
